Hormonal acne and hormonal cystic acne are not only painful and frustrating and can feel so defeating. The cause of hormonal acne is not as easy as “wash your pillow case, and stop touching your face”. I know I have been there my friend.
Thankfully I can say that I figured out how to reset my hormones to their “factory settings” and in doing so cured the hormonal cystic acne that was a side effect of the hormonal imbalance.
The picture above is me, age 38, 50+ pounds off, hormonal cystic acne is gone, and I fully healed my autoimmune system (hypothyroidism) after having my babies.
Today we are going to cover
- the best supplements and vitamins for hormonal acne (imbalance)
- best hormonal acne diet
- hormonal acne remidies
- best hormonal acne (clean) skincare

Before we deep dive into the 10 Best Vitamins and Supplements for Hormonal Acne if you are not currently taking any vitamins or supplements or only taking a multivitamin best success tip is to start with these two and work your way up from there.
Add one to two vitamins as you get in the habit.
The reason is not all vitamins are the same. Some need to be taken at night, with a meal, on an empty stomach, and so on.
To avoid overwhelm start with just these two and work your way up from there!
Organifi
Without a doubt, none of us are getting all the fruits and veggies in our daily diets. I love green drinks because they save us both time and money!
We use juice and OMG is both expensive and time-consuming. Green drinks allow us to get all the nutrients we are missing into one quick drink.
Organifi is a green drink that you are able to have 11 of the world’s healthiest superfoods, in just 7 seconds of work. And just 1 ounce of it is equivalent to eating over 23 pounds of ordinary garden vegetables!
What this does in short for hormonal acne is reduce inflammation by using foods such as Turmeric, Ashwagandha, and Matcha Tea as well as many others as a natural medicine for our skin and hormones.
Hormonal Harmony Supplment
Hormonal Harmony HB-5 when you look at the amazing before and after photos you can see a visual change in hormonal weight loss that comes from healthy happy hormones. Imagine what it will do for the skin as well!
Quick side note, this is not a “diet pill” it is a hormone-balancing supplement. Hormonal weight loss is a positive side effect of balanced hormones.
But if you are looking to clear up your skin, which means balancing your hormones to be rid of hormonal acne, then this supplement will help you accomplish those goals without needing to buy it all separately.
The vitamins listed below are ones I worked my way up to. Both by habit and budget. I stand by these 10 being essential for everyday life…. but I did not start with all 10!
Set yourself up for success if you are not already in that habit, start small and build from there.
Top 10 Vitamins for Hormonal Acne
I can only speak from my own personal journey of healing my hormones and share with you the vitamins and supplements that helped me do it. Of course, every person is different so there may be some testing and trial and error involved to find what works best for you.
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin B
- Krill Oil
- Grass-fed Organs
- Ashwagandha
- Ubiquinol
- Zinc
- Sulferzyme
- Apple Cider Vinegar & Lemon Water
- Magnesium
Vitamin D – most people with any kind of hormonal imbalance are going to find they are very low in vitamin D. The BEST way to get vitamin D is from the sun, and bonus it’s free and you are getting many other benefits from being outside. But in times like winters when there is little to no vitamin D in the sun, we need to supplement it through our foods and vitamins.
Not all supplements are created “as advertised” so be sure to do your research. I will tell you most vitamins and supplements from places like the grocery stores such as; Walmart, Target, and even places like natural grocers and whole foods normally are not the best quality.
If this is all you have access to it is better than nothing for sure, but I will be sharing the ones we researched, use and love ourselves in hopes it saves you time.
Vitamin B – B vitamins play a vital role in maintaining good health and well-being. As the building blocks of a healthy body, B vitamins have a direct impact on your energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism. Vitamin B complex may help prevent infections and help support or promote: cell health. (read more about Vitamin B here)
Krill Oil – coming in at #3 on the 10 best vitamins for Hormonal Acne is Krill oil is one of the most important supplements you could take. If you only choose 2 from this list let it be Krill oil and Magnesium! We will get to why magnesium in a moment. Krill oil contains the highest amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in combination with the antioxidant astaxanthin (two birds one stone).
The Krill oil I use also comes with evening primrose which is a plant medicine traditionally used because of its known wound-healing and hormone-balancing properties. Healing benefits are believed to come from its high gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) content. GLA is an omega-6 fatty acid that packs a potent punch with anti-inflammatory properties. What is known about GLA suggests that it can be a powerful hormonal acne healing agent.
Krill oil has been found to help build up healthy cell membranes (a process that naturally declines with aging) and decrease both swelling and inflammation (inflammation is our hormones factory (our autoimmune or endocrine system) WORSE enemy) of the deeper skin layers associated with hormonal cystic acne.
I am sure you have noticed all of the supplements are from Dr. Mercola? (lol) We have been using Mercola supplements for over 10 years now and love the quality for the price they offer. But comment below if you have researched other companies you love we are always open to trying new things!
Grass-fed Beef Organs – Traditional peoples, Native Americans, and early ancestral healers knew that eating the organs from a healthy animal would strengthen and support the health of the corresponding organ of the individual. For instance, the traditional way of treating a person with a weak heart was to feed the person the heart of a healthy animal. Similarly, eating the kidneys of a healthy animal was believed to support urinary ailments and overall kidney health… The pancreas was fed to people with digestive problems… and the spleen was fed to people with immune and blood deficiencies.
Grass-Fed Liver — Liver is nature’s most nutrient dense superfood and it’s the only meaningful source of vitamin A (also rich in heme iron, B12 and folate). Supports liver health, supports energy demands and is a key player in metabolism and methylation
— Heart is the richest source of naturally occurring coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). CoQ10 supports heart health, supports blood pressure health and is a nutritional powerhouse for mitochondria — Kidney is a potent bio-available source of naturally occurring selenium and B12. Supports strong kidney health, aids in detoxification pathways and the antioxidant defense system, helps defend against infection and supports immune health — Pancreas is nature’s all natural source of enzymes. Supports a strong functioning pancreas, supports blood sugar signaling and contributes an abundance of key enzymes for optimal digestion.* We are not what we eat… we are what we digest — Spleen is nature’s most concentrated source of heme iron. Supports strong immune and allergy health, and aids in the metabolic health of our blood cells. Well known for it’s ability to build blood —
Ashwagandha – Ashwagandha is best known for its stress-lowering effects. The medicinal herb appears to help lower levels of cortisol, a hormone produced by your adrenal glands in response to stress. More specifically, daily doses of 125 mg to 5 grams for 1–3 months have shown to lower cortisol levels by 11–32% that is amazing!
Several studies have shown Ashwagandha to have stress and anxiety-lowering properties. As well as other health benefits such as; improving athletic performance, reducing some symptoms of mental health-related issues, boosting testosterone and fertility in men, and reducing inflammation (for all 9 health benefits of Ashwagandha by healthline.com click here )
I also love that for all the amazing benefits of Ashwagandha it is the least expensive of all the supplements too!
Ubiquinol – CoQ10 and its reduced, active form – ubiquinol – are rare lipid-soluble antioxidants that can help protect you against cellular damage from free radical byproducts, ensuring your body receives the energy it needs for the healthy function of your heart, brain, muscles, kidneys and other fuel-hungry tissues.
If you are over the age of 35 or have hormonal imbalances of any kind this is a must in your supplements arsenal!
Ubiquinol is studied for its effects on; keeping the skin young, fertility, and reducing headaches, it is believed to play a positive role in cancer prevention, and is great for our brains!
Zinc – Zinc’s impact on your hormones is a BIG DEAL. Research has found zinc levels are directly associated with;
- Testosterone
- Growth Hormones
- Thyroid hormones – T3 & T4
- Estrogen
- Progesterone
Zinc has been proven to improve Thyroid function, and autoimmune conditions, increase sex hormones (ps the fountain of youth hormone), and progesterone production.
Thankfully Zinc is another of the inexpensive supplements that ANYONE WITH HORMONAL IMBALANCES should be taking every day! I love that Mercola added Selenium as well because iodine is a component of thyroid hormone, and selenium as a selenoprotein helps to convert the thyroid hormone into its active form. Both minerals are needed by the thyroid in adequate amounts; too much of one can contribute to a deficiency of the other.
Sulferzyme – by YoungLiving is an amazing bone and joint supplement that has tremendous visual effects on hair, skin, and nails. This is one of my top favorite supplements because I had NEVER seen my hair grow so long so fast (at age 38 mind you as you can see in the photo on the right, my hair touches my waistline in the back!).
If you are going through this list and looking to start somewhere with a few key supplements that fit in the budget I would say add this to your “going to get later” list. It is 100% worth it, but as far as healing your hormones it does not make the top of the list.
However, your skin will look more amazing than ever so it had to be on the best vitamins for hormonal acne list!
Click Here to grab your bottle (ps be sure to reach out to me first and ask about the $200 get oil spoiled gift card to see if it is available this would get you several bottles of Sulferzyme on me 🙂 –> contact me here
Apple Cider Vinegar & Lemon Water – coming in at pennies on the dollar is good old lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. Besides being great for weight management the potassium in lemons has been studied for its effects in helping with brain and nerve function, which helps with overall alertness. Plus, according to Natural Health Magazine, scientists found that just a whiff of lemon can boost your feel-good hormones and reduce stress levels.
ACV in drinking about two tablespoons (shot glass size) of apple cider vinegar we are actually giving our bodies what they need to make hormones – addressing any imbalances between estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
Apple cider vinegar has been used to balance blood sugar, in preventing blood sugar soars and crashes, and support healthy and consistent ovulation too!
Magnesium – Last but certainly not least in the 10 Best Vitamins for Hormonal Ance treatment is magnesium. Did you know it is said that around 80% of Americans are magnesium deficient? Crazy right? This in short is mostly due to poor standardized industrial farming practices adopted in the US following the World War around 1950.
Poor farming practices have depleted our soils of minerals normally received from our foods (they even have to supplement magnesium in the form of salt cubes for cattle, so humans are not the only ones mineral-deficient).
As mentioned earlier this is a MUST have as far as vitamins and supplements go, especially for people who have hormonal imbalances.
Magnesium fuels healthy mitochondria which are so important for the health of our hormones that steroid hormones are made in the mitochondria.
Magnesium normalizes the action of progesterone on the central nervous system, which is how it relieves symptoms of PMDD, migraines, and perimenopause. (read more on this here).
Magnesium and other minerals are anti-inflammatory and can help calm inflammation. Inflammation is often associated with acne flares. It also can help regulate hormone levels, boost cellular processes and reduce cortisol (all big pluses for balancing hormones)
Quick Disclaimer: I am not a medical doctor. I am an everyday person just like you, who was frustrated and did not want to be on medication my whole life without ever actually fixing the problem. I call my posts I share how I used food as medicine, clean nontoxic living, and modern scientific tools and research to heal my autoimmune system and be free of all medication in hopes that you can find your own healing journey too.
Red Light Therapy for Hormonal Acne
Now that we have covered supplements we can take let us look at a more topical treatment that I have been doing for over a year now and LOVE the way my skin looks from it!
First, what is Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy consists of about 5 to 15 minutes each day of exposing your skin to natural red and near-infrared light from medical-grade LEDs. The light penetrates the skin (painlessly) and gets absorbed into our cells to boost the mitochondria.
Revved-up mitochondria then crank out more energy-stimulating – adenosine triosphate (ATP), which in turn gets the cells busily working on repairing and rejuvenating all kinds of tissues throughout your body.
Red light therapy has been proven to reduce the healing time of scares, cuts, and wounds. Red Light is used by many pro athletes today because of how it cuts down recovery time.
There are even many natural-health practitioners who now employ red-light therapy for relief from chronic pain and arthritis, and high-end spas increasingly offer it for skincare, collagen density, and acne treatment.
Not only will Red Light Therapy be amazing for your overall hormone health by penetrating deep into your cells, but topically it is one of the best natural, safe, non-toxic, and non-invasive treatments for hormonal acne there is in my opinion and personal experience.
Red Light Therapy Benefits and Treatments:
- red light therapy gut health
- red light therapy for cellulite
- red light therapy rosacea (there are lots of before and after photos online)
- red light therapy for inflammation (reduced inflammation heals hormones)
- red light therapy after surgery (speeding up recovery) & red light therapy for surgical scars
- red light cold score treatment
- red light therapy weight loss (before and after photos can be found online)
- red light therapy at home for pain
- led light for rosacea
- red light therapy mitochondria (overall brain function, memory, etc)
- red light therapy for psoriasis
- red light therapy for hair loss at home
- red light therapy pregnancy
These are just a few of the most common treatments for red light therapy we found while doing our own research before purchasing our Red Light.
After months of research since it is quite an investment, we decided to go with Joovv. Joovv is one of the leading red light machines on the market and we can say using it for over a year now that it was 100% worth every penny we invested in it!
In the long run, this saved us thousands if you account for the price of red light therapy at medispas and the time investment in having to go to the location and so forth.

Best Diets for Hormonal Imbalance
I would be doing you a major disservice if I left out one of the cornerstones in healing my hormones FOOD!
In every post about how I healed my hormones (thyroid), I will tell you I used food as medicine and clean nontoxic living.
If this sounds like a lifestyle you would like to learn more about and tailor a plan that fits your needs I would love to chat more with you about my Healthy Hormones 1-on-1 coaching program! If you are more the independent type I totally get that too. You can learn exactly what I did to heal my hormones, and drop over 50+ pounds, all while creating a wellness lifestyle to make it now effortless for me right here on my blog.
The coaching program is for those who are busy, don’t have the time to invest hours in pricing together a lot of information, and who like and need some accountability while getting on their feet.
Custom Keto Diet
Whether you are the independent type or the one who likes having someone on the journey with them Custom Keto Diet is something I refer EVERYONE to!
The reason for this is when I started keto I saw instantly my body starting to heal (I lost 30 pounds in the first 90 days when nothing and I do mean NOTHING else worked)! This was also 6+ years ago and keto and the internet were not what they are today.
This meant I basically had to figure it all out myself. This was an extremely time-consuming (and frustrating) process I hope to help you avoid.
In my journey keto was the first thing that finally worked for my body, and thus I would say keto is the best diet for hormonal imbalance.
Important Note:
I transitioned to clean keto about a year into my journey. The first time I heard someone teaching the difference between “clean keto” and “dirty keto” (which up to that point I had never even heard those terms before). I knew right away that eliminating dairy and processed refined foods, both of which are technically keto would vastly improve my overall health and longevity.
And I was right.
I dropped another 20ish pounds the following month. Something to keep in mind if you choose to give keto a go. Also, if you are not willing to commit to 6 months or better yet a lifestyle change as soon as you “go back to your old ways” so will your health.
This is why in my coaching the 1st thing we cover is Mindset!
Here is a way to try the Custom Keto Diet meal planner free to see what you think!
Conclusion
Hormonal cystic acne is a warning sign of a bigger problem of hormonal imbalance. As painful and frustrating as hormonal acne is we have to know that it is our body’s “check engine” light coming on telling us something under the hood (in our hormone factory) is not working properly.
Though these are the top 10 Best Vitamins for Hormonal Acne please remember the cure to getting rid of hormonal acne for good comes from going to the root of the problem itself – the hormone factory (endocrine system).
People who focus on the outer problem, in this case, hormonal acne, and not the root of the problem of hormonal imbalances will often find acne was just the first warning sign. As hormonal imbalances go untreated they will result in many other “check engine light” messages from our bodies in the form of hormonal weight gain, hormonal belly, infertility, extreme fatigue, the “han-gry” feeling because the body is storing too much food as fat not using it as fuel, and so on.
