The main causes of hormonal imbalance issues are primarily the thyroid, stress, and eating disorders.
Stress and insufficient sleep are noted as the top two causes of hormonal imbalance.
Next on the list of top causes of hormonal imbalances are an unhealthy diet and diabetes.
You will hear me say all the time, “food is medicine or poison, it is either healing and nourishing the body or slowly killing it”.
A quote that shook me to the chore the first time I heard it from Dr. Mark Hyman.
Dr. Hyman is a functional medicine doctor, the head of the Clevland Clinic, and one who also healed his autoimmune disorder (hormonal imbalance) using food as medicine just like I did and teach here on the blog!
Menopause and pregnancy both play major roles in throwing off the balance of the thyroid hormone. It is said that 6 out of 10 women in the US have a thyroid imbalance, and over 65% of them go untreated.

Best Diets for Hormonal Imbalance
Can I be honest? I hate the word diet! In the US the word diet implies a start date and end date, depriving yourself, there are “cheat days”, and ultimately the word failure is most commonly associated with the word diet.
How many people do you know who have “started” a diet only to:
1) be successful until they quit and then they gained all their weight back + some extra
2) fell off the wagon before they hit their goals?
My guess is you could not count them on one hand, and you might have been the first person that came to mind.
I get it, I have been there too.
Let’s get one thing out of the way up front.
This hormonal imbalance diet is NOT a calorie restriction “diet”.
Personally, I have seen too much research about the harmful long-term effects calorie restriction has on the brain.
It is also something that the moment you deviate your metabolism is not able to process the excess and thus the weight that was lost comes back twice as fast plus an extra 20 pounds or more…..
However, there are foods that are affecting your hormones, and your hormones are affecting your weight loss (or lack thereof).
Hormonal weight gain is one of the top reasons for obesity in women in the US today.
The meal plan that ended up working for me is Keto.
Clean Keto to be more specific.
Clean keto is removing dairy, processed foods, and highly refined foods that would otherwise be “keto-approved”.
Dirty keto as it is now called is basically eating low carb, even if it is junk food as long as it qualifies as low-carb friendly you can eat it.
This version of eating my husband and I call the “human diet”. You know the real foods that grow out of the ground and that humans have eaten from the beginning of time?!?! (lol)
It was not until these Frankin-Foods, junk foods, fast foods, and highly processed refined carb-type foods cooked up in labs.
These Frankin-Foods are created by scientists whose intentions are to use chemicals and other ingredients that make people addicted so they eat more and buy more!
Sick right?
This is how I lost over 50 pounds, healed my hormones, am off all thyroid medication, and have kept it off effortlessly! Creating a wellness lifestyle is what I have learned along the way it is truly effortless.
My Healthy Hormones Trifecta
Ok so what exactly does a healthy hormone trifecta mean? It is what I found to be the first three steps that must be taken in order to begin to naturally heal hormones and begin to reset our hormones to the healthy happy hormonal balance they should be.
Step 1: Food
Food is either medicine or poison, it is either nourishing and healing or slowly killing. It is estimated that 1 in 3 American adults will die from one of the Big 5 Killers. Cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems, or Alzheimer’s disease.
The research is saying that many will even have more than one of the big 5 killers.
At the root of all of these deadly diseases is food.
How do we make sure we are NOT that one out of three?
Eliminate the foods causing the issues!
Start with Clean Keto for 90 days to six to eight months. This allows your body to detox from the foods causing the issues, as a bonus, the food cravings also stop.

Then what I did was slowly start to eat more of a Paleo (ish) dinner.

I never counted carbs or macro or weighed my food. I saw this as a LIFESTYLE, not a diet.
Did I mention I hate the word diet? (lol)
Mindset, when you are starting, is everything! I printed a list of foods I COULD eat not ones I couldn’t. I rephrased things to “I choose not to have that” or simply “no thanks”.
Our minds are powerful and if we are thinking we are missing out or deprived how long do you think our sheer willpower will carry us?
I never thought about a cheat day, because who am I really cheating right? I mean I would never let my husband have a once-a-week (or month) cheat day on me….. why would I cheat on myself (my health) with food that is causing me to be sick?
Step 2: Supplement
Hormonal imbalance means that our bodies struggle to try to keep up. Often times this leads to even more of a hormonal imbalance which is why it is SO IMPORTANT to supplement and help our bodies out!
Here on the blog, you will find many different blog posts where I tell you all the best hormonal support supplements. But, getting all the supplements separately can break the budget and be really overwhelming to schedule and remember.
